Spraying Tips

We don't profess to be "gardening experts", but over the years we've learned a lot from our customers about the many uses for our sprayers. We'd like to share some of that knowledge with you. Hopefully, this page will give you some ideas on how to get more out of your sprayer.

Tomatoes

Plant Pest Control:

This is probably the most popular use for a lawn & garden sprayer; controlling those nasty, persistent insects and pests that damage and eat your beautiful flowers, vegetables, shrubs and flowering plants. The leading chemical manufacturers offer excellent guides to identifying pests, what to use, when to use it, how often and in what mixture.

Weeds

Weeds, Fungus & Unwanted Vegetation:

Undoubtedly the second most popular usage, pressurized sprayers are ideal for the controlled application of herbicides and fungicides. If your particular problem is not widespread, consider localized spot application instead of broadcasting herbicides and fungicides; it's a lot more economical and environmentally friendly.
We like the technique of spot killing lawn weeds using a telescoping extension wand on your sprayer; you don't have to bend over - just walk across your lawn and spray the individual weeds.

Insects

House Pests:

Apply the appropriate pesticide around the foundation of your house to control ants, termites, fleas, roaches and silverfish. Also useful inside the home if those same pests are a problem.

Fertilizing

Fertilizing:

Although not as common as other uses, some plants need to be spray fertilized with a fine mist; easy to do with the adjustable nozzle on your sprayer. Another idea: if you have to locally apply a liquid fertilizer around a lot of flowers or plants, use the sprayer at lower pressure and adjust the nozzle to a solid stream.

Cleaning

Cleaning:

There are many cleaning solutions on the market for use outdoors that need to be sprayed on, left to set for a prescribed period of time, and then hosed off with fresh water; pre-painting solutions, house washes, cleaners for stucco and vinyl siding, etc. Your lawn & garden sprayer is the perfect tool.

Herbicide

Herbicides:

There are a number of broad spectrum herbicides, sometimes called "Weed and Grass Killer", which will essentially kill any growing plant. These are primarily used along fence lines, to kill grass and weeds growing out of cracks in walks and driveways, and around trees.

Wood

Sealants:

Need to apply clear sealants to wood products - decks, gazebos, picnic tables, etc.? Or to brick, concrete and other masonry? Check out our page on Wood & Masonry sprayers.

Multiple Sprayers?

We're frequently asked if you can do all of these jobs with one sprayer, or do you need to own multiple sprayers for multiple usages. Well, besides the fact that we like to sell more sprayers, owning multiple sprayers is a good idea; primarily to make after-use cleaning a little simpler.

For example, if you've used the sprayer to apply a broad spectrum herbicide, you'll want to make very sure you've cleaned it out thoroughly before you use it to spray pesticides on your vegetables; otherwise you might end up with wilted lettuce.

To be safe, we suggest having three sprayers: one for herbicides, one for pesticides, and one for fertilizing and other general applications. In that way, even though you should still clean the sprayer after each use, you have the peace of mind that you're not going to spray unwanted residue of a chemical in the wrong place.
